Who can ride?
Anyone who is willing to fundraise and who has trained to do the ride within the timeframe.
Which type of bike is best?
Use the bike you are most comfortable on. The morning section is just right for a road bike or hybrid. The afternoon ride is still manageable on a road bike too although you may prefer a heavier bike.
Can I ride an e-bike?
Yes! This is a fundraising ride rather than an athletic feat. You may ride an e-bike (or a pogo stick!) as long as you fundraise.
Are children welcome?
Yes! The start and finish place is not far from the dike where children can ride safely.
Is there parking at 13479 Sharpe Road?
YES! Just drive into the property and you will be directed to parking off the road.
Tell me about the route.
Imagine a figure 8. The central point is "the base" on Sharpe Road where we start and finish with 50 km loops going out on either side. The morning loop goes out on quiet roads and paved paths to Fort Langley and then back to Pitt Meadows. The afternoon loop goes out on hard-packed dikes in Pitt Meadows and Port Coquitlam and back to the base in Pitt Meadows.
Is there a route for the family ride?
The base is close to the dike where families can ride safely and set their own distances. We will provide a suggested 25km route but you can decide how far your family can go. Check out the map for the afternoon ride on THE ROUTES page for ideas.
Do I have to buy a jersey?
If you have purchased a red Solidarity Cycle shirt in previous years, you don’t need to buy another one. Wear the one you already have. Families do not have to order red shirts but may if they like.
What if I get hungry?
Grandmothers will feed you all along the route. Some riders say it’s the only ride where they GAIN weight! Breakfast, snacks and lunch are included in your registration. Burgers at dinner are $10 paid in advance.
Bathrooms?
There will be provisions for washrooms at each rest stop about every 25km.
Can my family come out to watch and cheer?
ABSOLUTELY! We hope they will and stay to enjoy lunch and dinner with us. They can purchase burger tickets too. We will post the locations of the best place to cheer before ride day.
Can we linger afterwards to debrief the ride?
Yes! There is plenty of covered area. There will be a fire pit, heat lamps and plenty of covered areas to relax, eat, and talk about your day. Please bring your own lawn chair(s) Refreshments will be served.
